Grizzlies defend the den winning 4-1 against the Wenatchee Wild

Grizzlies now 11-6-0 have won both games this weekend seating themselves tied for 5th in the overall standings in the BCHL.

Wenatchee Wild scored early to go up 1-0 thanks to a goal by Ean Somoza.

The power play was hot last night going 2/5 throughout the game. Matthew Wood opened the scoring for the grizzlies on the power play with a wicked one timer snipe that dazzled the 1400 fans in the building. Later in the 2nd, Isack Bandu received a cross crease pass from Matthew Wood and lifted the puck into the top shelf to go up 2-1 on the Power Play! Wenatchee Wild tried to push back but the 20 year old netminder Cole Schwebius shut the door. With 5 minutes left in the game captain Ellis Rickwood off a faceoff on the Grizzlies blueline pushed the puck forward for a streaking Kalen Szeto who out skated the Wenatchee defence to score and bring the Grizzlies up by 3-1. Mathew Wood would end up scoring from the red line on an empty net to bring his point total to 26. The most in the entire BCHL.

Cole Schwebius posted 27 saves on 28 shots to notch his first win at the Q Centre, and get the game’s 1st star.

The Grizzlies will play in Alberni Valley on Wednesday and come back Friday to host the Cranbrook Bucks on Fitzgerald Triplets Night.
